SECTRONICSAUSTRALIA
PRELIMINARY POWER ESTIMATOR
OFF-GRID POWER, DESIGNED AROUND YOU

What do you need to power?

Start with your equipment and operating time. Explore a preliminary battery and solar assessment, then have Sectronics review the design for your application.

How to use this calculator
  1. Choose your location
Enter your suburb, click Find location and select the matching result.
  2. Add your equipment
Select each model, quantity and daily operating hours. Choose “Other equipment” if yours isn’t listed; enter its brand, model and maximum watts for an immediate provisional estimate. Add a datasheet link or paste details for review.
  3. Set your backup requirement
Choose how long it needs to operate without sunshine.
  4. Review the estimate
Compare battery runtime and solar generation, then select “Request a system design” for Sectronics to review your project.

Results are preliminary estimates. Final sizing depends on your equipment, installation and site conditions.

Advanced location options

Town search uses a local GeoNames extract (CC BY 4.0), filtered to Australian populated places on 16 October 2026. Confirm the coordinates for the actual installation. Coordinates are sent to NASA POWER for solar data.

02Equipment to run

Help build our equipment library

Submit your device models and datasheet details for Sectronics review. We store the equipment details, supplied watts, power connection, quantities and operating hours you submit. Submissions are private and pending review and approval; they are not automatically added to the public list. This does not submit a project enquiry or produce a quote.

Mix different models, quantities and operating hours. One TSW101 switch runs continuously. Equipment is customer supplied. Unlisted devices with supplied wattage can be calculated immediately, pending Sectronics review and approval.

*TiOC exact variant and router Australian SKU require confirmation.

Sizing notes & assumptions

Explore different solar panel capacities. The reference controller remains a Victron 100/20; final panels, controller and mounting are selected after review.

80% usable capacity assumed. Exact battery, temperature limits and parallel compatibility require review.

Enter the combined rated wattage of all panels. For example, 2 × 440 W panels = 880 W. This changes the energy scenario, not the approved hardware configuration.

NASA values are long-term average horizontal irradiation, not a weather forecast. This screening estimate does not model panel tilt, orientation or site shading and cannot guarantee winter operation.

PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT

One pole / one power system

Battery draw while equipment is on—includes estimated losses
Daily energy requirement—equipment + communications
Battery autonomy—continuous operation, no solar
Solar energy scenario—Wh/day after assumed losses

Does the configuration stack up?

An energy estimate is not final design approval. Protection, startup loads, cable lengths, PV limits, winter weather and installation conditions still need review.

Compare battery options

BatteryUsable energyAutonomyBackup target

Starts fully charged. Capacity is an energy-based estimate, not a battery model recommendation or confirmation of enclosure fit. For scheduled operation, autonomy is average-energy equivalent hours, not a guaranteed shutdown time. Meeting the battery energy target does not confirm solar or hardware suitability.

A larger battery does not fix a daily solar deficit. Solar panels and charging equipment must also support the load and recharge the battery bank.

Calculation assumptions & sources

Each device’s maximum or stated allowance is held for its selected daily operating hours. Published basic consumption is not treated as a daily average. Camera values: panoramic 25 W; fixed IR 8.9 W; TiOC 10.1 W; PTZ 25 W.

Bridge allowance 5 W; router 5.7 W; switch allowance 2.31 W; MPPT allowance 0.32 W. Camera and bridge conversion/cabling efficiency 90%; common distribution 98%. No NVR, Cerbo, shunt or auxiliary loads included.

PV model: customer-selected total panel wattage (440 W default), 80% derate, a ten-hour sine-shaped generation curve, fixed 256 W controller cap (20 A × 12.8 V), then 95% storage allowance. No bifacial gain credit. Actual charging voltage varies. Recovery is daily energy balance, not an hourly weather simulation.

NASA POWER horizontal irradiation is used as an equivalent full-sun input to the simplified PV model. Monthly averages do not represent consecutive cloudy days; tilt, shading and hourly weather modelling remain outstanding. Unlisted devices use customer-supplied watts provisionally, with 90% conversion and 98% distribution efficiency assumed. Missing wattage blocks numeric results. Additional inverter standby consumption is not included; hardware compatibility requires review. Calculations are not stored automatically. Submit devices for review saves your device list privately in our equipment review queue. No notifications are sent. Use Request a system design to send an enquiry.
